Exercise with your baby

Les sports à pratiquer avec bébé

After sharing an article about sports during pregnancy, today we are focusing on your baby with a look at “baby sport”. And yes, as we all know, exercise is good for your health, so why not discover this new trend?

Why try “baby sport”?

Exercise for babies, more commonly known as “baby sport”, is a great way to encourage your child’s physical awareness. It can also provide fun, relaxation and a sense of calm for your baby – all you need is a little energy and a good mood! The benefits are not just for your baby. It also gives you the opportunity to spend time together outside the house, gradually get back into shape and meet other mums.

If you prefer a more structured activity, many centres now offer classes for mums and their babies, designed by professionals and adapted to your baby’s age to ensure safe and suitable physical activity.

Which “baby sport” should you choose?

Swimming:

Swimming is one activity your baby is sure to enjoy. From around 4 months, babies can start enjoying time in the water. Some public swimming pools even offer “baby swimming” classes. Babies also have natural reflexes in the water, moving their arms and legs and instinctively reacting when their face comes into contact with water. After spending 9 months surrounded by amniotic fluid, many babies can feel comfortable in an aquatic environment. “Baby swimming” classes allow your little one to become familiar with water in a fun and reassuring way while enjoying a feeling of relaxation and freedom.

Yoga:

Yoga can also be a fun activity for babies. Ideal for encouraging balance and body awareness, yoga can introduce your little one to new positions and movements. This activity supports babies’ development through gentle massage and age-appropriate exercises. Yoga can help encourage concentration and physical awareness. And why not practise yoga together with your baby? Mum-and-baby yoga is a lovely way to gradually return to exercise after giving birth while sharing a special moment together.

Gymnastics:

Just like yoga and swimming, there are also “baby gym” classes, in other words gymnastics designed for babies and young children. The aim of baby gym is to help babies and children develop their motor skills. They can learn to coordinate their movements and develop their sense of balance.

Running with your baby:

Since your little one arrived, have you wanted to get back into shape but struggled to find the time? If you enjoy running, discover the growing trend of stroller running. Put on your sportswear and head outside with your baby for a gentle run. Your baby will love watching the world go by! Just make sure to follow the appropriate safety recommendations for this activity.
