Developed in the 1990s by the Austrian Textile Research Institute (ÖTI) and the Hohenstein Research Institute, the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 was created to meet consumers’ need for textile products that are safe for health.
Okay, but what does that actually mean?
In practical terms, these institutes established criteria for assessing unwanted substances in textile products and ensuring that they do not have harmful effects on consumers’ health.
Tests for harmful substances are carried out in laboratories under practical conditions, meaning conditions designed to be as close as possible to real-life use. These tests are based on clearly defined limit values. It is important to understand that a substance itself is not necessarily toxic; it is its concentration that can make it harmful. The label therefore does not guarantee the total absence of a particular substance, as this would be impossible, but ensures that its concentration remains below the permitted limits and is therefore considered safe for health.
For a product to be certified OEKO-TEX, it must meet all the established requirements and criteria. Obtaining the label therefore represents a guarantee of quality. When the “Confidence in Textiles” logo appears on a product, it is a sign of responsible textile manufacturing.
One of the major advantages of this certification is that it has been standardised WORLDWIDE. This means that even if the various stages of production take place in different parts of the world, the label helps ensure that OEKO-TEX criteria have been respected throughout the manufacturing process.
Cache Cœur and the OEKO-TEX label:
Cache Cœur, a responsible brand committed to the well-being of its customers, creates its maternity and nursing collections using fabrics certified OEKO-TEX. Our soft materials are guaranteed to meet health safety requirements, helping to respect the skin of pregnant women.
As mentioned above, products are tested to ensure that they meet OEKO-TEX requirements. It is important to know that the more directly a textile product comes into contact with the skin, the stricter the OEKO-TEX requirements are. Cache Cœur’s maternity and nursing lingerie collections, maternity pyjamas and maternity swimwear therefore meet a high level of OEKO-TEX certification requirements.
