What is SMAM ?

World breastfeeding week (SMAM) is organized since 1992 by the World Breastfeeding Alliance (WABA). During this period, any organization or person can support, protect and encourage breastfeeding. This organization defends a simple principle: that thebreastfeeding is a right of women and children. But also to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding for the development of the child.

Why Breastfeed ?

First of all the decision to breastfeed is a personal decision, which only the future mother can make. Beyond nutrition, thelactation strengthens the bonds between mother and child, it is a shared moment of complicity.

It is recommended to breastfeed a child for 6 months without any other foods to ensure proper development, optimal growth and good health. Breast milk contains antibodies and provides newborns with the nutrients they need to maintain their health.

For the practical side, there is no need for any upstream preparations, the milk is always (or almost) available and at the right temperature. Breast milk is also economical and environmentally friendly. It is a gift of nature.

It's also good for mom !

It’breastfeeding would reduce the risk of breast cancer and some ovarian cancers. It also reduces the risk of osteoporosis. In addition, breastfeeding women would lose weight accumulated during pregnancy more quickly, and postpartum depression would be less frequent thanks in particular to pleasure hormones deployed at the time of feeding.

Breastfeeding would also reduce the risk of bleeding after childbirth, the need for insulin in women with diabetes, and it would decrease the likelihood of suffering from anemia.
